This episode is for busy parents looking for realistic, low-stress ways to get dinner on the table.

I speak with Marie Fiebach of Feed Your Family Tonight, who explains how to simplify weeknight meals so families can eat together more often and with less chaos.

Marie is a mother of four with kids aged 12–17. She launched Feed Your Family Tonight in 2017 to help busy households reclaim calm at dinner time. She’s a cookbook author, podcaster, and appears regularly on her local ABC affiliate to demonstrate quick, family-friendly recipes.

Marie understands the hurdles many families face: late work hours, after-school activities, picky eaters, food allergies, and shifting schedules. Despite all that, she serves home-cooked meals nearly every night and shares easy systems you can use to do the same.

Her practical advice in this episode inspired me to start meal planning and prepping—and it’s made weeknights noticeably easier.

Recipe of the Week

This week’s pick is a vegetarian three-bean chili. We’ve been adding more meatless meals to our rotation and this chili has become a favourite. Serve it over a baked potato and top with Greek yogurt or sour cream and shredded cheese for an easy, comforting weeknight dinner.

How to manage meal prepping amidst the chaos of family life

  • Make time to meal plan each week. A simple plan sheet helps you see the week at a glance so you can prepare around activities.
  • Choose meals that match your day’s energy and schedule. If the evening is busy, plan something easy or one-pot; if you have more time, choose a recipe that requires a bit more attention.
  • Keep a reliable backup meal you can prepare in 20 minutes using pantry staples and common fridge items.
  • When family members come home at different times, opt for meals that hold well—slow cooker, a low-heat oven dish, or something that can simmer gently until everyone is ready to eat.
