Beef is one of my favorite foods and a regular on our family table. Recently the National Beef Association reached out to collaborate and highlight several useful features on their “Beef. It’s What’s For Dinner” website. One tool I especially like is the Interactive Meat Case, which provides clear, practical guidance for choosing beef at the butcher counter or grocery meat case. When I ask a local butcher how to prepare an unfamiliar cut, I sometimes leave unsure about their suggestions. The Interactive Meat Case helps by outlining which cuts work best for particular cooking methods and recipes, so I can shop with confidence.
My partnership with the National Beef Association focuses on lean beef, which is what our family usually chooses. I tried their Lean Beef Personality Matchup survey, a short questionnaire about our eating habits and preferences. The survey matched our household to top sirloin — and the result felt spot on. Top sirloin is versatile, reasonably tender, and often budget-friendly. For our family of five, buying 1 to 1.5 pounds makes an affordable steak dinner without wasting meat.
Although I enjoy a rich rib-eye on occasion, my husband prefers leaner cuts, so top sirloin suits him well. The survey also pointed me to nutritional comparisons for lean beef cuts; I was surprised by some of the rankings until my husband explained the differences — turns out he already knew this information.
Over the next two days I’ll be hosting a giveaway sponsored by the National Beef Association. I’ll also share a top sirloin recipe from their site that’s simple, quick, and delicious — exactly the kind of weeknight meal I appreciate.
I’m giving away two swag bags, one for each day of the giveaway. Each winner will receive an “I Love Lean Beef” apron, an insulated, zip-top grocery bag, and a $100 Visa gift card. The insulated tote is sturdier than many reusable bags thanks to its zip closure and lining — my youngest even used it as a carry-all while we were out because she liked it so much. It’s practical for groceries and handy for everyday use.
To enter the giveaway you’ll need to take the Lean Beef Personality Matchup survey and then comment on the next two posts to say which lean beef cut you were matched with. I’ll post full entry instructions tomorrow, but you’re welcome to take the survey now if you want to be ready. Come back tomorrow for the top sirloin kebab recipe and a chance to win $100.
Disclosure: The National Beef Association provided the swag bags for this giveaway and also provided a gift card to help offset grocery and shipping costs related to the recipe series and prize fulfillment.
