The texture is similar to buffalo chicken nachos: the wonton shells bake up crisp like a chip and are filled with shredded chicken, buffalo sauce, cream cheese and blue cheese for bold, balanced flavor.

These Wonton Cups are one of my favorite game day snacks. They’re quick to assemble, easy to share, and cleaner to eat than wings or loaded nachos—perfect for parties and the Super Bowl.

Ingredients:

Ingredients for buffalo chicken wonton cups on counter.

Wonton wrappers: Bake into crisp cups in muffin tins—think chip-like crunch that holds the filling.

Rotisserie chicken: Using cooked rotisserie breast keeps the filling tender and reduces prep time. Dice or shred to about 1¼–1½ cups.

Buffalo wing sauce: Choose a wing sauce for a thicker consistency and bold flavor.

Blue cheese crumbles: They cool and complement the spicy buffalo sauce; you can substitute grated Cheddar if preferred.

*Full ingredient quantities are in the recipe card below.

Substitutions and Variations:

Swap blue cheese for grated Cheddar if you prefer a milder option. Use mild, original, or spicy wing sauce depending on heat preference. Any cooked chicken (breast, thigh, or leg) can replace rotisserie breast; aim for about 1¼–1½ cups diced, with skin removed.

How to Make Buffalo Chicken Wontons:

Wonton wraps in muffin tin sprayed with cooking spray.

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 325°F. Spray two 12-count muffin tins (24 holes total) with cooking spray. Press one wonton wrapper into each hole, pushing to the bottom and forming the sides to the edges. Bake for 5 minutes to set the cups.

Step 2: While the wontons prebake, combine cream cheese, diced cooked chicken, buffalo wing sauce, blue cheese crumbles, salt and garlic powder in a large bowl. Stir until smooth and well mixed.

Step 3: Remove the prebaked wonton cups and spoon a heaping teaspoon of filling into each. Return to the oven and bake 5 minutes, rotate the tray 180 degrees, then bake another 5–7 minutes until the tops bubble and the edges turn golden brown.

Step 4: Let the wonton cups cool for a few minutes, then garnish with sliced green onions. Serve warm. Blue cheese dressing or ranch make excellent dipping or drizzling options on the side.

Expert Tips:

  • Spray each muffin tin cavity before placing a wonton wrapper to prevent sticking and help the cups release cleanly.
  • Don’t overfill the cups; overfilling causes spillover and reduces the number of finished cups.
  • Watch closely toward the end of baking—wonton edges brown quickly. Remove them as soon as the edges are golden and the filling bubbles.

Recipe FAQs:

What are wonton cups made of?

Wonton cups are made from store-bought wonton wrappers pressed into muffin tins and baked until crisp. Once formed, they’re filled with your choice of toppings—here, a creamy buffalo chicken mixture.

How to store?

These are best fresh. For leftovers, cool to room temperature, store flat in an airtight container, and reheat in the oven at 325°F until warmed through to maintain crispness.

Can I prep ahead?

Yes. Pre-mix the filling and prebake the wonton cups for 5–7 minutes ahead of time. Add the filling and finish baking close to serving for the best texture.
