Spring has arrived, and it put me in the mood for Easter crafts. Recently my favorite 2½‑year‑old and I wandered through the craft store’s Easter aisle without a plan — something I do more often than I should. I always seem to find something I want, which is a hobby of mine, but that’s another story.
We spotted packs of white wooden eggs with only two left on the shelf, so we grabbed them. I began thinking about how to decorate them: Mod Podge and fabric? Paint? Glitter? Glitter won. I remembered seeing glitter polka‑dot eggs on Pinterest, and after tracing the idea back, found the original inspiration at Better Homes and Gardens. Suddenly our trip had purpose and we hurried off to find glitter.
For this project we used Elmer’s glue spots, fine glitter, and the white wooden eggs from Hobby Lobby.
My daughter and I had a lot of fun making these. I placed the glue spots while she sprinkled glitter, so it’s an easy craft to do with young children — no liquid glue involved, which means less mess. She did manage to get glitter everywhere, but that’s part of the charm — a little sparkle is always welcome.
We experimented with different glitter colors and tried an ombré effect. To achieve that look we applied one row of glue spots and glitter at a time. You’ll likely have stray glitter on other parts of the egg, but it cleans up easily — a cotton swab or even your fingertip works best for removing excess.
Have you started making Easter crafts yet? What are your favorite projects to make with kids? I love simple, low‑mess activities like these glitter eggs because they’re quick, kid‑friendly, and look great on display.
